Audited src/ve2e/inference.py in the virdx/ve2e checkout without changing that repository.
Traced the deletion to 36a6db519372b7a641f9f9c0df0069d8fccf7175 and inspected the predecessor lineage back to scripts/run_inference.py.
Checked all 254 fetched origin/* branch refs. Twenty-eight remote branch tips still contain the file; origin/neerav/isup-two-stage contains a post-fork fix from 6f92aef4bfde60fe6cc14131df9468551de63328.
Checked source imports, call sites, configuration, and documentation. The deleted file combined a Hydra CLI with reusable helpers; the deletion preserved the used helpers in a package and removed the old CLI/config.
Lessons Learned: Pitfalls
A path-only log hides the earlier scripts/run_inference.py history. git log --follow was needed.
Branch tip dates do not show when the file itself changed. Blob grouping and the last path-touching commit were needed to avoid treating unrelated branch activity as inference development.
Lessons Learned: Improvements
A reusable repository-audit checklist should separate exact-path history, rename lineage, tip containment, blob variants, call sites, and runtime evidence. Git can establish repository intent and development, but not prove actual executions without external telemetry.
